Vaping is the use of e-cigarettes and has been a worldwide trend noticed to escalate in the last decade. An e-cigarette is an electronic rechargeable device that contains a liquid substance known as e-liquid. This e-liquid is heated by a heating mechanism in the e-cigarette that generates vapor or an aerosol that is inhaled or in popular culture, vaped.
The e-liquid contains various proportions of nicotine, propylene, glycol, and glycerin. Some custom-made types of e-liquids also contain different flavors to make them more appealing and some may also lack nicotine. They are said to reduce nicotine addiction and use but can also introduce non-nicotine substance users to the vice.
First product of e-cigs was invented in China by a scientist and most of the e-cigarettes are produced in China and imported to other parts of the world.

The major component of the e-cigarette is the e-liquid that is heated to produce an aerosol that is inhaled. The e-liquid as discussed above contains nicotine, propylene, glycol, glycerin and at times assorted flavors, this ingredient also become vaping myths too whether is safe to inhale or not. The e-liquid is stored in a cartridge and can be sold separately with different components as desired by the client.
Nicotine is a stimulant that is known to activate the parasympathetic system of the autonomic nervous system. This has an effect of mood altering and may make one feel relaxed or at times agitated. It also increases one’s appetite. Nicotine has an unusual effect of being a stimulant in low doses but with successive intake, it becomes a sedative and is known to dampen neuronal activity in high intakes.
It is well known and documented adverse effects including strain on the breathing system in large doses, and also problems with the cardiovascular system noticeable with problems like increased blood pressure. Not all e-cigarettes contain nicotine.
Propylene glycol is another ingredient which is among the largest component of the e-liquid. It is a synthetic organic compound in form of a colorless, odorless liquid with a slight hint of a pleasant taste. In the e-liquid, it is aerosolized in the atomizer. It combines with glycol to form propylene-glycol which is a base carrier chemical for the other components. Propylene is not that toxic to human beings but cases of allergic reactions have been reported into vaping myths. Glycol mostly combines with propylene to form propylene glycol where it is aerosolized.
Glycerin is another major component of the e-liquid which is a polyol compound that is viscous, colorless, odorless and possesses a distinct pleasant taste and also non-toxic. Its major uses are to act as a solvent for the other components as it is a good solvent and is sometimes used to increase the density of the vapor clouds majorly for amusement.
Assorted flavors are also another ingredient that is not normally included but is included depending on the client’s preference. Flavors may be artificial or natural and maybe strawberry, pineapple, and mint among others.
